The horse is inspired by the equestrian statue of Emanuele Filiberto, the Duke of Savoy, which is located in Piazza San Carlo, one of Torino's main squares.

The statue, known as the "Caval 'd brons" or "Bronze Horse" in Piedmontese, was created by prominent Italian sculptor Carlo Marochetti in 1838. It depicts Emanuele Filiberto on horseback, raising his sword triumphantly to commemorate his victory at the Battle of San Quintino in 1557.
